Wildcats men's tennis goes 1-1 on first day of UNLV Tournament

LAS VEGAS, NV - Weber State men's tennis took on UC Davis and Seattle at the UNLV Tournament in Las Vegas today.
"It's not easy to play outside, but we played well," said head coach, Brad Ferreira. "UC Davis has a solid team. We had our chances in doubles but could not get it done and then some very competitive matches at 2 and 4. We played solid in the afternoon and beat Seattle."
Match vs UC Davis
UC Davis earned the first singles point in the no. 1 spot when WSU duo Kris van Wyk and Bo-Han Li narrowly missed the victory 6-4. Despite Sebastian Buxman and Arthur Serafim' 7-5 victory against UC Davis' Daniel Landa and Andrei Volgin 7-5 in the no. 2 spot, UC Davis was able to win the point in the no. 3 spot to earn the overall doubles point.
In singles play, UC Davis came away with five points in the no. 2, no. 3, no. 4, no. 5, and no. 6 spots. However, Kris van Wyk was able to give Weber State a point in the no. 1 spot when he defeated Ivan Thamma 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6). The final score was 6-1 for UC Davis.
Match vs Seattle
Weber State earned the no. 2 and no. 3 points in doubles to win the overall point. Sebastian Buxman and Killian Sinclair defeated Monroy and Schmassmann 6-3, and Brendan Barr and Cezary Walkusz beat Bauer and Jaramillo 6-0.Â
The Wildcats earned each point in singles play. Kris van Wyk defeated Nield in the no. 1 spot 6-1, 6-2. Bo-Han Li beat Seattle's Chan 6-1, 6-2 in the no. 2 spot. Sebastian Buxman earned the point in the no. 3 spot, beating Monroy 6-3, 6-4. Cezary Walkusz defeated Schmassmann 6-1, 6-3 in the no. 4 spot. Killian Sinclair beat Bauer 6-0, 6-0 in the no. 5 spot, and Brendan Barr finished off the Wildcats' 7-0 win when he defeated Jaramillo 6-0, 6-0 in the no. 6 spot.
Weber State (6-4 overall, 1-0 Big Sky) will take on UNLV February 16th at 11:00 am in Las Vegas, Nevada.
