Wildcats beat Southern Utah 82-71

OGDEN - Weber State picked up a season sweep of Southern Utah as the Wildcats knocked off the Thunderbirds 82-71 Saturday night at the Dee Events Center. 

Cody John scored 28 points and Jerrick Harding added 22 as the Wildcats shot 48 percent from the field and 92 percent from the free throw line. 

How it happened 
The two teams changed sides early in the game before the Wildcats went on a 16-3 run to take a 25-16 lead and would never look back. WSU led 39-27 at halftime after shooting 53 percent from the field in the half. 

The Thunderbirds cut the lead to seven points several times in the second half but WSU never let the lead get below that. WSU was 19 of 21 from the free throw line in the second half. 

Inside the stats
WSU finished the game shooting 48 percent and was 23 of 25 from the free throw line, the best percentage of the season. The Wildcats outrebounded SUU 36-32 and held the Thunderbirds to 35 percent shooting. 

John had one of his best games as a Wildcat, finishing with 28 points on 6 of 11 shooting, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. He was also a perfect 12 of 12 from the free throw line, tied for the sixth best performance in a game in WSU history. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. 

Harding finished with 22 points, with 16 coming in the second half. He also had six rebounds and tied his career-high five assists.

Michal Kozak added 12 points and seven rebounds and Dima Zdor had nine points off the bench.

Up next
The Wildcats improve to 11-16 overall and 7-9 in Big Sky play with four conference games remaining. The 'Cats will have just one game next week, hosting Portland State on Saturday, Feb. 29.
