Weber State downs Pacific 5-3

Weber State softball concluded the Wolf Pack Classic Sunday morning with a single game against Pacific. 

What head coach Mary Kay Amicone said: "I'm really proud of how we played Wildcat softball today. We had solid pitching and defense and had strong situational hitting. We had a great focus and energy. Lauren Hoe was really dialed in this weekend and proved it again today. Kate Donaldson was very good in the circle today for us. 

GAME 1 -
How it happened:  Weber State got things started early by putting two runs up in the bottom of the second. Lauren Hoe started the bottom of the second off by drawing a walk. McKell McCuistion singled to left field to put two runners on. Brooke Moeai singled up the middle for an RBI. Takesha Saltern later singled to center field for another RBI. The second inning concluded with WSU scoring two runs from three hits and left one on base.

In the top of the third, Pacfic tied the game up at 2-2 thanks to a two run homerun. The Tigers took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth, Weber State's offense ignited again. Courtney Pestka started things off with a double to left center. Saltern slapped one at third base and thanks to a throwing error was safe while Pestka went on to score to tie the game. 

Later, WSU had runners on the corner. Chloe Camarero grounded out to ss for an RBIand as the fifth inning came to a close, WSU had a 4-3 lead over Pacific. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Lauren Hoe continued her clout at the plate with a homerun to center field. Heading into the final inning of play Weber State had a 5-3 lead over Pacific. 

At the plate: The Wildcats scored five runs from six hits and four RBIs. WSU drew two walks and had just one strikeout. Lauren Hoe led WSU going 1-2 from the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.  

In the field: Weber State had 21 putouts and 11 assists. Ashlyn Visser closed out 11 putouts and Camarero led the way with four assists. 

In the circle:  Amanda Sink started in the circle for WSU and she pitched 2.2 innings and faced 13 batters. She gave up five hits, two runs and no walks. She also came away with three strikeouts. 
 
Kate Donaldson came into the game and pitched 4.1 innings. She faced 16 batters and gave up just one hit, one run and one walk. She also had one strikeout. 

Notes to know:  Weber State has a 10-14  overall record now on the season. Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone is just one win away from 200 wins in her seven years at Weber State. 

Up Next: Weber State will start Big Sky Conference play with a three game series at Sacramento State on March 20-21.
