Another week and more preseason honors for Weber State football. The Wildcats are ranked No. 3 in the nation in the Athlon Top 25 preseason rankings. In addition, Weber State has three Wildcats named to the Athlon All-America preseason team.

The Wildcats ended the 2019 season ranked third in the country, the highest ranking in school history.

WSU is the top-ranked team in the Big Sky Conference and trails only three-time defending national champion North Dakota State at No. 1 and Northern Iowa at No. 2. Weber State and Northern Iowa are scheduled to play on Sept. 19 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

National runner-up James Madison is ranked No. 4. The Big Sky has four teams in the top 12. Montana State is fifth, Montana is seventh and Sacramento State is 12th in the poll.

The two primary FCS preseason polls – the STATS FCS and the AFCA coaches' poll - will be announced closer to the start of the season.

In addition, three Wildcats, Josh Davis, Trey Tuttle and Ty Whitworth have again earned preseason All-America honors and were named to the Athlon team. All three were also named to the HERO Sports Preseason All-America team.

Davis is a junior running back, Tuttle a senior kicker and Whitworth a senior offensive lineman. All three have earned first-team All-Big Sky and All-America honors in their careers.

The Wildcats are coming off a record-setting year in 2019. WSU tied its school-record with 11 wins, finishing 11-4 overall. WSU won its third-straight Big Sky title and advanced to the semifinals of the FCS Playoffs for the first time ever.

Weber State finished the season ranked third in the nation, the highest ranking in school history.

This season, Weber State returns 17 starters off last year's teams, including 10 players returning that earned All-Big Sky honors last year, including first-team performers Davis, Clay Moss, Jared Schiess and Whitworth.

Head coach Jay Hill is back for his seventh season as head coach of the Wildcats, Hill was named the AFCA Region Coach of the Year in 2019 and has the highest conference winning percentage in Weber State history.

The 2020 Wildcat season is scheduled to kickoff on Sept. 5 at Wyoming. The home and Big Sky opener is set for Sept. 26 against UC Davis.

Weber State will also host Dixie State, Montana State, Portland State and Northern Colorado at Stewart Stadium this season, with Big Sky road games at Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Idaho State and Southern Utah.
