Wildcat women's basketball takes on SUU with two games

• After a week off, Weber State women's basketball returns to action this week with two games against in-state rival Southern Utah.
• The Wildcats and Thunderbirds will play Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the America First Events Center in Cedar City. The two teams will then play Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Dee Events Center in Ogden. Both games will be streamed live on Pluto TV with live stats at WeberStateSports.com.
• The Wildcats are 0-7 overall and 0-4 in Big Sky play. Weber State last played two games at Eastern Washington on Jan. 7 and Jan. 9, then had the week off last week before this week's two games.
• Weber State ranks third in the Big Sky and 20th in the country in free throw percentage, shooting 77.4 percent from the line.
• Individually, Kori Pentzer leads the Wildcats in scoring at 10.1 points per game. Pentzer is also seventh in the nation in free throw percentage. She is 25 of 26 from the line this season, for 96.2 percent. Jadyn Matthews leads the team in rebounding at 6.6 per game. She also is third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 50 percent.
• Southern Utah is 5-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action. The Thunderbirds have had eight games canceled due to COVID-19 protocol. They have played just two games since Dec. 21. SUU lost two games at Idaho on Jan. 8 and Jan. 9 and then had a two game series with Eastern Washington canceled last week.
• SUU ranks 13th in the country in rebounding margin and +12.2 and is 16th in free throw percentage at 78.3 percent. The Thunderbirds lead the conference in rebounding and blocked shots and rank second in scoring offense and scoring margin and are third in field goal percentage and field goal defense. Liz Graves, a former Weber State player, leads the Big Sky in scoring at 18.9 points per game, is second in field goal percentage and third in rebounding.
• This will be the 37th all-time meeting between the two schools with the series record tied 18-18. SUU won all three games last year, including the first round of the Big Sky Tournament in Boise. Weber State is 6-11 all-time in games in Cedar City and 12-6 against the Thunderbirds in Ogden.
• Velaida Harris is in her third season as head coach of the Wildcats.
• After this weekend's games, the Wildcats will be right back home next Thursday and Saturday hosting the University of Idaho at the Dee Events Center.
