'Cats roll past Thunderbirds 91-67

OGDEN - Weber State never trailed and rolled to a 91-67 win over Southern Utah Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.Â

The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead and never looked back. WSU led 28-9 with 7:47 to play in the first half after a 14-0 run and the 'Cats led 47-27 at halftime.Â

Weber State extended the lead to 25 points with 15:54 to play, before Southern Utah made a rally. The Thunderbirds cut the lead to 12 points with 9:02 to play but the Wildcats posted a 10-1 run and never looked back.Â

WSU shot 57 percent from the field and held Southern Utah to just 34 percent shooting. The Wildcats were 10 of 23 from 3-point range and outrebounded SUU 37-31. WSU also had 20 assists and seven blocked shots.Â

Senior Cody Carlson led the Wildcats with career-highs of 25 points and 11 rebounds, the first double-double by a Wildcat this season. Carlson was 10 of 13 from the field and also had two assists and one blocked shot.Â

Senior Isiah Brown added 22 points, along with a career-high seven assists. Dontay Bassett added 12 points and Michal Kozak added 11 points with three 3-pointers off the bench.Â

Weber State improves to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in Big Sky play. It was the first conference game for the Wildcats in more than a month.Â

The two teams now head to Cedar City for a Saturday matchup. The game will tipoff at 12 p.m. and will be broadcast on Pluto TV and 103.1 FM "The Wave".Â
