Wildcats beat Ball State to move to 4-0

Koby McEwen scored 30 points and Dillon Jones had a double-double in 85-74 win.

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - Koby McEwen scored 30 points and Dillon Jones had a double-double as Weber State moved to 4-0 with a big second half to beat Ball State 85-74 Friday afternoon in the second game of the Jersey Mike's Classic. 

The Wildcats moved to 4-0 for the first time since the 2011-12 season. 

How it happened 
The Wildcats trailed by as many as nine points in the first half. Ball State led by seven with six minutes left in the half when Weber State went on an 11-3 run to take their first lead of the game. The Wildcats led 35-33 at halftime. 

WSU led by five early in the second half before an 11-0 Ball State run gave the Cardinals the lead. Ball State led by as many as nine points in the second half when McEwen took over. 

He hit three 3-pointers in less than three minutes and cut the lead to 62-61 with 8:48 to play. 

The Wildcats trailed 69-68 with 6:36 when they went on a 17-2 run to open the game up and seal the win.

Weber State shot 58 percent from the field in the second half. 

Numbers to know
McEwen finished with a Weber State career-high of 30 points. He was 11 of 19 from the field, knocked down five 3-pointers and had five rebounds. He scored 19 points in the second half. 

Dillon Jones had his third double-double in four games this season with a career night. He had career-highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds. He was 7 of 10 from the field and dished out four assists. 

JJ Overton added 13 points with seven rebounds. 

The Wildcats finished the game shooting 52 percent from the field and held Ball State to 41 percent shooting. WSU knocked down seven 3-pointers and outrebounded the Cardinals 37-32.

"It was a grind and wasn't very pretty, but we stayed together and showed a lot of toughness down the stretch. We got the stops we needed to and were able to get some shots to fall and got things going.

The Wildcats will finish the three game tournament at the Jersey Mike's Classic on Sunday, taking on Green Bay at 10 a.m. Mountain time. The game will be streamed on Pluto TV.
