Wildcats Ready To Open Big Sky Tournament Against Idaho

11/2/2021 6:56:00 PM | Women's Soccer

On Wednesday afternoon, the fourth-seeded Weber State Wildcats will kickoff the post-season against the fifth-seeded Idaho Vandals in the opening round of the Big Sky tournament.

This will be the second meeting between the 'Cats and Vandals this year, the first matchup came on September 24th where WSU secured a thrilling 2-1 come from behind victory. In that game, Yira Yoggerst scorched the back of the net with a rocket of a shot to knot things up after the Vandals had scored near the end of the opening half; Yoggerst was assisted by Big Sky Newcomer Of The Year Morgan Furmaniak.

After the goal, the two teams battled but neither were able to find a go-ahead score in regulation but eventually Taylor Slack headed in the golden goal after Lauren McConnell laid out a pretty pass to her which helped them secure a 2-1 lead and the win.

Earlier this week, WSU had five players outside of Furmaniak land all-conference honors. They had a first-teamer in Sadie Newsom and both Taylor Slack and Olivia Tucker were named to the second team while Hailey Price and MekellMoss each landed honorable mentions.

The Wildcats leading goal scorers this season Furmaniak (6), Slack (5), Price (2), Webster (2), Andelin Baldwin (2), and Alexis Simpson (2), they've also received a goal from the likes of Yoggerst, Amy Kenney, Sadie Newsom, and Lauren McConnell.
