Wildcats Kick Off 2022 Indoor Season at BYU Invitational

The 2022 Weber State Track and Field season kicked off at the 2021 BYU December Invitational, held at the BYU-Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah. The women showed out with a few top finishers and a spot in the indoor NCAA rankings.Â
Track
Distance runners for the Lady 'Cats performed well, with junior Laurie Murphy taking first place in the mile run with a time of 5:18.71, her time ranks 34th in the NCAA. Maura Williams and Lexi Jonart had good showings in the 3000 meter run finishing fourth and fifth with times of 10:40.92 and 10:49.32 respectively.
Field
Field events saw solid performances from several athletes. Megan Larkins had a first place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 52-04.25, and Marissa Schmidt finished fourth with her throw of 48-04.25. Kapua Pulotu had strong throws in both the discus and shot put with second and third place finishes with throws of 153-01 in the discus and 43-09.25 in the shot put.Â
Cidnee Davie-Bohn placed second in the long jump with a mark of 18-06.50, and Alisha Ellsworth jumped 17-05.75 to take fourth. The high jump had fifth place finishes for Eden Deveraux and Emily Barnes-Sterzer who each cleared 5-03.50
It was a strong showing for the season-opener with several athletes competing and many solid performances. The 'Cats will have a small break over the holidays to prepare for the rest of the season. They will be back in action January 14-15, 2022 at the Snake River Open in Pocatello, Idaho.
