Weber State Men's Tennis Finishes 2-1 In UNLV Tournament

LAS VEGAS, NV - On day two of the UNLV Tournament, Weber State men's tennis took on New Mexico State and UNLV.Â

Match vs. New Mexico State
Â
"Since I've been the coach, we have played New Mexico State every year and never beaten them. I am very impressed with our performance today," said head coach Brad Ferreira.Â

The match started off with a win from the Wildcats for the doubles point. Sebastian Buxman and Arthur Serafim took the win in the No. 1 spot 6-2. Bo-Han Li and Michiel Van Schoor also came away with the victory in the No. 2 spot 6-4 giving the cats' the overall point.Â

"I was pleased with our doubles, which got us off to a great start. Bo-Han Li and Sebastian Buxman are machines at the moment and playing extremely well," said Ferreira.Â

After securing the lead, the cats' went on to control singles play as well. Kris Van Wyk earned the point in the No. 1 spot 6-1, 7-5. Sebastian Buxman earned the singles point after defeating Martin Simecek 7-5, 6-2 and Bo-Han Li secured the point defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-3. New Mexico State was able to pick up two points making the final score 5-2 for the Wildcats.Â

Match vs. UNLV

The match started with a win from UNLV for the doubles point. WSU duo Michiel Van Schoor and Bo-Han Li took the victory in the No. 2 spot 6-2.Â

"We had a good chance to win the doubles point but started down by one," said head coach Brad Ferreira.Â

In singles play, UNLV came away with five points in the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 spots. Wildcat Bo-Han Li earned the point against Anton Ornberg in three sets with the scores being 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. The No. 5 and No. 6 spots went unfinished.Â

"The boys showed a new level of competitiveness today. UNLV is always a very solid team, so for us to have chances against them is fantastic," said Ferreira.Â

The Wildcats will continue their 2021 season against Utah State on Saturday, February 13th.Â
