Wildcat women's basketball heads to NAU for two games

Weber State women's basketball is back on the road for two games this week, traveling to Flagstaff, Arizona to take on the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.  

The Wildcats and Lumberjacks will play Thursday night at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Rolle Activity Center in Flagstaff. Both games will be streamed live on Pluto TV 1058 with live stats at WeberStateSports.com. 

The Wildcats are 0-15 overall and 0-12 in Big Sky play. Weber State is coming off two home losses to Montana last week. The Wildcats lost 61-46 on Thursday and lost a heartbreaker 58-57 to Montana on Saturday. 

Individually, Daryn Hickok leads the Wildcats in scoring at 9.6 points per game. Kori Pentzer is next at 9.4. Pentzer also leads the Big Sky and ranks 13th in the nation in free throw percentage at 90.9 percent. She is 40 of 44 from the line this season.   

Jadyn Matthews recorded her fourth double-double of the season on Saturday, finishing with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Matthews is third on the team in scoring at 9.3 points per game and ranks ninth in the Big Sky in rebounding at 6.9 per game.  

Northern Arizona comes into this week's games with a 9-11 overall record and a 7-9 mark in Big Sky play, currently eighth in the league standings. The Lumberjacks lost two games at Portland State last week, that snapped a three-game winning streak. NAU is 6-2 at home this season.  

The Lumberjacks rank second in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 43.1 percent from the field. They are also third in 3-point percentage, 3-point defense, assists and turnover margin. Senior Jacqulynn Nakai is fourth in the Big Sky in scoring at 14.8 points per game. Junior Regan Schenck leads the Big Sky in assists at 4.9 per game and also in 3-point field goal percentage at 50 percent. 

Weber State holds a 47-38 all-time series lead over Northern Arizona but the Lumberjacks have won the last four meetings. In games in Flagstaff, NAU holds a 20-18 all-time series lead and has won three-straight games. 

Velaida Harris is in her third season as the head coach of at Weber State. 

   

After this weekend's games, Weber State will have the final home games of the season next week, hosting Sacramento State on Thursday and Saturday. The regular season will conclude with two games at Northern Colorado on March 3 and 5. 

The Big Sky Tournament will be held March 8-12 in Boise, Idaho.
