GREELY, CO - The Weber State women's volleyball team pulled out another win against number two in the Big Sky Conference, Northern Colorado. The Wildcats beat the Bears 3-1 in an exciting matchup.
"That was a great effort against the best team in our league," said head coach, Jeremiah Larsen. "I am happy with how we responded in every challenge UNC brought to us."
The first set was a close one between the Wildcats and Bears. Northern Colorado was able to get a head start at the beginning of the set, but Weber State settled down into their strong offense and found their way back into the lead halfway through. The Bears didn't go down easy, however, but Weber State pulled out the set win 25-23.
The Wildcats came out strong in the second set, and dominated the Bears quite well. Northern Colorado wasn't able to get a hold on Weber State's offense, and the Wildcats ran away with the set 25-16.
Northern Colorado found their footing in set three, and gave Weber State a hard time. The score went back and forth between the two teams throughout the whole set, with four lead changes. Though the Wildcats fought hard to climb their way back, the Bears took the set 25-22. The match was forced to a fourth set.
Both teams played very well in the fourth set, and the momentum passed between the Wildcats and Bears. It was neck-in-neck until the very end of the set, but the Wildcats pulled out the win 25-22.
Dani Nay led the Wildcats in kills with 21, Rylin Adams had 15 kills. Makayla Sorensen had 18 digs, and Ashlyn Power had 42 assists to give the Wildcats the edge over the Bears.
"Set 4 was some of the best volleyball from both teams I have seen in a long time. Not a lot of time to enjoy this. We need to get some rest and expect another grind tomorrow," said Larsen.
Weber State will play a rematch with Northern Colorado on February 21st at 2:00 pm in Greely, CO.
