Weber State wrapped up the Dixie State Tournament on Sunday, falling to the host Trailblazers by a score of 3-1 at Karl Brooks Field in St. George, Utah. The loss was the second-straight for the Wildcats, who finish the tournament with a 2-2 record after winning the opening pair of games on Friday.
The Weber State offense struggled for the second-straight day and were held scoreless for the first six innings. Mia Rushton led off the game with a hit for the second day-in-a-row, but the Wildcats could not capitalize on the early opportunity. Lauren Hoe singled in the second inning and Faith Hoe singled in the fourth for the only other Wildcat hits over the first six innings.
The Wildcats again tried to rally in the seventh inning, but for the second-straight day came up short. Faith Hoe led off the frame with a bomb to right field, clearing the scoreboard at Karl Brooks Field for a solo home run, her first of the season. Another pair of runners reached for the 'Cats in the inning, but they were unable to get the key hit to tie the game.
Dixie State starter Carissa Burgess went the distance for the Trailblazers, holding the Wildcats to a single run on four hits and three walks, two of which came in WSU's final inning rally. Burgess struck out five on the day, including the game ending out, and improved to 4-5 on the season with her performance.
Mariah Ramirez started the game for Weber State in the circle, allowing two runs over four innings of work and suffering the loss to drop to 4-4 on the year.
The Wildcats will have next weekend off before returning to St. George to compete in another Dixie State-hosted event from March 12 through the 14th.
