Cats' Fall To The Utes In A Close Match

Salt Lake City, UT - WSU women's tennis battled hard but fell short 4-2 against Utah Saturday afternoon.Â
Pei-Hsuan Kuo and Megan Davies took the first win of the day in No. 2 doubles, 6-3. No. 3 doubles team Megan Lombardi and Sicely Ferreira were next to finish, defeating Jasmine Rich and Anastasia Goncharova 6-2 to clinch the doubles point for the Wildcats. No. 1 doubles team Yuuna Ukita and Ana Morett Salas did not complete their match, ending at 5-4 against Madeline Lamoreaux and Emily Dush.Â
In singles, Sicely Ferreira earned the point in the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-2 against Jasmine Rich. WSU's Megan Lombardi fought hard but lost 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot finishing second. In the No. 3 spot, Ana Morett Salas fell short 6-4, 6-2 against BYU's Anastasia Goncharova. Yuuna Ukita did not complete her match against Madeline Lamoreaus, it was 6-3, 5-5 40-30 when stopped.Â
"We played determined today. It was tough to see the momentum switch, but we will definitely learn from this loss," said head coach RuthAnn Allen.
The Wildcats will continue their 2021 season Feburary 17th against Dixie State.Â
