The Weber State women's track and field team was split between two meets on April 9th and 10th at the University of Utah and Utah State. "We had a lot of good performances this weekend at the U of U and Utah State," said women's head coach Paul Pilkington.
University of Utah - Utah Spring Classic
Emily Morgan-King performed well in both the 100 and 200 at Utah on April 10th. In the 100 meter dash, she finished in first place with a time of 11.57, only four tenths away from her PR. This time also broke the stadium record that Morgan-King already held. Morgan-King also earned first place in the women's 200 meter dash, finishing with a time of 24.25 even with facing a strong headwind in the straightaway.Â
Cheyenne Leatham earned second place in the women's 800 meter run with a time of 2:08.42. This time earns her the seventh place spot on Weber State's all-time list in the race that she hasn't run since high school four years ago. The time is currently ranked #2 in the conference. "Cheyenne looked really impressive, it was a great race for her," said Pilkington.
Kate Sorensen ran the women's 100 meter hurdles and earned first place with a time of 13.55. This time broke the stadium record and leads the Big Sky Conference. It is also ranked #3 on Weber State's all-time list.
Paige Van Meeteren and Amy Chambers faced off in the women's high jump. Van Meeteren finished in first place with a mark of 1.70 meters. Chambers also had a mark of 1.70, but took second place due to more misses than Van Meeteren.
Cidnee Davies-Bohn earned first place in the long jump with a 5.64m mark.
Utah State - Aggie Invitational
"It was a solid meet for the Wildcat throws crew with a couple of PRs and several athletes just missing their PRs," said throws coach Paul Barrett.
Megan Larkins earned third place in the hammer throw with a 172-02 mark. Sophie Herbert hit a PR in the women's hammer throw at 168-04 to earn fourth place. This mark earns her the #10 WSU all-time in the women's hammer throw.
Lauren Olsen earned second place in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 153-03. Freshman Alyssa Hansen hit a PR of 135-10 and earned fifth place in the women's javelin throw. This mark earns Hansen the #9 spot on the WSU all-time list.
"The consistency level is very solid which shows potential for breakthroughs as the season progresses. Very pleased with where they are at mid-season," said Barrett.
