Wildcats defeat Bears, earn Big Sky Conference Title

GREELEY, CO - The Wildcats were crowned Big Sky Conference Tournament Champions on Friday, April 2nd in Greeley, Colorado. Weber State defeated Northern Colorado 3-1 in a rematch of the 2019 tournament. This is the first time in WSU history that a team has won the regular season title and the Big Sky Tournament Championship.
The first set was close until the very end, with both the Wildcats and Bears scoring points back and forth. Weber State played well in the set, but were unable to close out the last two points when they were up 24-22. Northern Colorado pushed the set two extra points, and barely edged out Weber State 26-24.
The Wildcats dominated the second set, finding points and taking the momentum. Weber State had 16 kills and three aces in the second set, and took down the Bears 25-18.
Weber State played well in the third set, with high-level performances from both the Wildcat offense and defense. After the third set, Rylin Adams led both teams in kills and hitting percentage, with 17 and .395, respectively. The Wildcats found their rhythm in the third set, and took the Bears down 25-17. The 'Cats were up 2-1 going into the fourth set.
The Wildcats and Bears fought hard in the fourth set, but Northern Colorado just couldn't keep up with Weber State's attacks and defensive efforts. Weber State continued to execute excellent play, and the Wildcats took the final set 25-17.
Rylin Adams finished the match with 19 kills and a .294 hitting percentage, and 16 digs. Adams, crowned the Big Sky Conference MVP, was a huge asset to the Wildcats in both the offense and defense. Dani Nay earned 17 shots with a .158 hitting percentage, and Emma Mangum had 11 kills with a .375 percentage. Ashlyn Power had a total of 45 assists, one kill, and nine assists, and Makayla Sorensen racked up 16 digs.
With the tournament win, the Wildcats will advance to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament for the first time since 1988. The NCAA volleyball women's selection show and bracket reveal will take place on April 4th at 2:00 pm on ESPNU.
