CEDAR CITY, Utah – Mariah Ramirez tossed a complete game shutout and the sister duo of Faith and Lauren Hoe combined for six RBI as Weber State took the deciding game of a three-game series by a 10-0 margin against Southern Utah on Saturday at Kathryn Berg Field.
Mia Rushton tripled to leadoff the game for the Wildcats and Chloe Camarero singled her home to give Weber State all the runs they would need in the game as Ramirez went to work against the Big Sky Conference's top offensive team.
Ramirez walked Brooke Brown with two outs in the first inning, but ended the inning with a groundout by Kalena Shepherd. She would face the minimum over the next three innings as a double play wiped out a Gianna Carosone single in the second and the T-birds went 1-2-3 in the third and fourth innings.
Weber State broke the game open in the third inning, putting seven runs on the board. Faith Hoe singled home a pair to make the score 5-0, and after a Ramirez single, Lauren Hoe launched a three-run home run to right center to extend the lead to eight runs.
The Wildcats added their final two runs in the fourth as Faith Hoe tripled home Ashlyn Visser and later stole home on the front end of a double steal with Aliya Harmon.
Southern Utah got their second hit in the bottom of the fifth as they looked to score enough to extend the game, but Ramirez struck out Danielle Vasquez to end the game under the run rule.
Rushton, Visser and Faith Hoe each went 2-for-3 on the day, while Mariah Ramirez went 2-for-2. Faith and Lauren Hoe each drove in three runs, while Camarero added another two RBI.
The Wildcats improved to 21-14 overall on the season and to 11-1 in Big Sky play, extending their lead in the standings to three games over SUU, who dropped to 16-23 and 8-4 in Big Sky play.
