Wildcats rally back to beat Thunderbirds 19-16

CEDAR CITY - Weber State scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and held on to beat in-state rival Southern Utah 19-16 Saturday afternoon in Cedar City.
The Thunderbirds led 16-9 after the third quarter but the Wildcats started the fourth with a quick touchdown, then added a field goal and held the Thunderbirds scoreless.
The Wildcats totaled 402 yards of offense, compared to 236 for Southern Utah. WSU had 235 yards rushing and held the Thunderbirds to 55 yards rushing.
Kyle Thompson got the scoring going with a career-long 51-yard field goal midway through the first quarter to put the 'Cats up 3-0.
SUU blocked a Wildcat punt and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown to give the Thunderbirds a 6-3 lead and added a 39-yard field goal at the end of the half to lead 9-3 at halftime.
The Wildcats opened the third quarter with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that culminated in a four-yard touchdown pass from Barron to Dallin Jamison, his first career touchdown. The Wildcats went for two but did not convert and the game was tied 9-9.
Southern Utah responded with a 78-yard drive of its own and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and took a 16-9 lead.
The Wildcats opened the fourth quarter with a 43-yard touchdown run by Dontae McMillan that tied the game 16-16.
After Desmond Williams forced and recovered an SUU fumble, Kyle Thompson connected on a 19-yard field goal to give the 'Cats a 19-16 lead with 10:02 to play.
McMillan finished with 13 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown. Josh Davis had 18 carries for 68 yards before leaving the game with an ankle injury. Daniel Wright, Jr. added 11 carries for 45 yards.
Bronson Barron returned at quarterback and finished 13 of 23 passing for 167 yards and one touchdown. Ty MacPherson led the receivers with four catches for 87 yards.
Williams led the Wildcat defense with nine tackles, including seven solo tackles. He also forced and recovered the fumble, the only turnover of the game.
The win moves the Wildcats to 4-0 during the spring season.
Weber State will close out the regular season next Saturday with a home game against Idaho State and will clinch the outright conference title with a win.
