Women's Tennis Defeats Eastern Washington 4-2, Advances To The Championship Match

Phoenix, AZ - Weber State women's tennis took an impressive 4-2 win over Eastern Washington in the opening round of the Big Sky Championship Tournament.Â
"I am so proud of the determination and fight from our team," said head coach RuthAnn Allen. "We battled hard to get this win."
Weber State started by competing tough in doubles. Finishing first in the No. 3 position, the Eagles Jennifer Kida and Renata Gabuzyan took the upper hand, 6-3, against WSU's Megan Lombardi and Pei-Hsuan Kuo.Â
At No. 2 doubles, Sicely Ferreira and Megan Davies were able to secure the point for the Cats when they defeated Scout Mathews and Louise Waite, 6-3. The doubles point came down to the No. 1 position where Ana Morett Salas and Yuuna Ukita fell short, 6-4, against Rylee Braeden and Zoey Nelson. Giving Eastern Washington the point advantage going into singles.Â
The Wildcats started strong going into singles play. Winning straight sets at Nos. 3, 2, 5, and 4. At No. 3 singles, Megan Lombardi secured Weber's first point when she defeated Louise Waite, 6-2, 6-3. Quickly following her teammate's lead, Ana Morett Salas went up against Scout Mathews and won, 6-3, 7-5.Â
On court 5, Pei-Hsuan Kuo earned the victory, 6-2, 7-5 against Renata Gabuzyan. Megan Davies earned the team their final point as she defeated Zoey Nelson, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.
On court 6, Sicely Ferreira and Yasmin Mansouri went unfinished 6-4, 3-6, 2-0.Â
The Wildcats will now advance to the championship match against NAU, Sunday, May 2.Â
