Summer Allen earns first-team All-America honors

Finished eighth in the steeplechase at the NCAA Championships
An historic year of Weber State Athletics came to an end Saturday with another record-setting performance.Â
WSU senior Summer Allen earned first-team All-America honors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon in Eugene, Oregon. She posted a time of 9:40.37 to finish eighth overall in the event and pick up first-team All-America honors. She is the first Wildcat to earn All-America honors in the steeplechase since Amber Henry in 2013.Â
In the trials of the event on Thursday, Allen set a new Weber State and Big Sky Conference record in the event with a time of 9:37.48.Â
It was the second All-America honors for Allen this spring. She finished seventh at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in March, the highest finish in Weber State history.Â
Lexie Thompson also earned second-team All-America honors by finishing 13th in the 10,000 meters on Thursday.Â
The NCAA Championships also marked the end of an historic WSU Athletics season that began in November and was held during a worldwide pandemic.Â
