Wildcat Volleyball To Open Season With Weber State/Utah State Invitational

Weber State volleyball is set to start the 2021 fall season by co-hosting the Weber State/Utah State Invitational this weekend
The Wildcats have an exciting and challenging non-conference schedule this year that will commence on Friday morning at 11:00 am by hosting Seton Hall in Swenson Gym. This will be the Pirates' first ever visit to Ogden and it will be the first time that these two schools have ever faced off in volleyball. Seton Hall is coming off an abbreviated season in which the Pirates went 4-7 in Big East play. The Pirates are led by sophomore outside hitter Tsevetelina Ilieva who was named to the preseason All-Big East team.
On Saturday morning at 11:00 am in Swenson Gym, Weber State will have the opportunity to host its former Big Sky Conference rival North Dakota. Although they used to play in the same conference, the two squads only faced off as Big Sky opponents on a couple of occasions in 2017, both of which were won by UND. The Fighting Hawks finished their 2021 spring season with a 2-16 record, both of their victories coming against Oral Roberts. The matches against Seton Hall and North Dakota can be watched on ESPN+.
The Wildcats will make the short drive north on Saturday night at 7:00 pm to square off against their in-state rival, the Utah State Aggies, in the Estes Center in Logan, Utah. The Aggies finished their last season with a 5-10 record, they went 3-4 when they played at home. The two schools have a long history against each other, and USU owns a 38-23 advantage in the all-time record, Weber State, however, has won the last two matches against their rivals to the north, both matches ending with a 3-0 score.
Swenson Gym has become a fortress for the Wildcats who have tied a school record by winning 16 consecutive matches at home, and boasted an 8-0 record in Ogden during the spring 2021 season. The Weber State/Utah State Invitational provides a wonderful opportunity for fans to support the Wildcats and for WSU to re-establish its wonderful homecourt advantage.
