Cardiac 'Cats Comeback, Beat Montana State to Extend Winning Streak

In their first conference road trip of the season, Weber State Volleyball made the journey to Bozeman, Montana and won an epic five set thriller against the Montana State Bobcats, 3-2 (17-25, 25-20, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13).
The first set was all Bobcats all the time. MSU outhit and out served Weber State, as the Montana State cruised to a wire-to-wire first set victory, 25-17.
Seemingly with momentum on their side, the Bobcats came out a bit flat in the second half as WSU leapt ahead with a 4-0 lead to start the second set. The Wildcats flipped the script entirely from the first set, outhitting and out blocking the Bobcats and had a six-point lead on a few different occasions, but wound up winning the second set by 25-20, which would be Weber State's largest set victory of the evening.
There were lead changes and ties aplenty in the match's middle set. Weber State took early control of the third, only to see the Bobcats seize that control and try to establish a lead of their own. As things were winding down, however, it would be the Wildcats, anchored by two kills from their All-American outside hitter Rylin Adams, who scored four of the final five points to take the third set.
With Weber State playing for the match, the Bobcats came out determined to defend Shroyer Gym and refused to go away in four sets. MSU's first five points of the set all came off kills from Emma Pence or Hannah Scott, and the Bobcats started the set with a 5-1 advantage. Weber State didn't even the score until Ashlyn Power went berserk at the service line and sliced the MSU defense up with a few aces and knotted things up at 17. The two sides exchanged narrow leads before deadlocking things once more at 24-24, but MSU scored a couple of points to give it the narrow edge in the deuce set, 26-24.
The craziness didn't stop as the topsy turvy fifth set got underway. Coming out of the break, the Bobcats were on fire and couldn't be stopped. With a 6-1 lead, Weber State appeared to be done and dusted for the evening.
Not so fast.
The cardiac 'Cats scored 9 of the next 13 points and squared the score up at 10-10 in a fifth set that only goes to 15 points. With back-to-back blocks from Pence and Jourdain Klein to give Montana State another lead at 12-10, WSU once again had its back against the ropes. Following a timeout from Weber State Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen, and aided by multiple errors from Montana State, the Wildcats scored five of the match's remaining six points and won the final set 15-13.
The win improves Weber State to 8-5 (3-0) and lengthens its winning streak to three consecutive matches, while dropping Montana State to 5-9 (1-2). With the victory, head coach Jeremiah Larsen also earned his 100th victory at Weber State.
Adams was tremendous on the night, leading the 'Cats with 22 kills and 13 digs for another double-double, and Dani Nay also joined the double-double club with 17 kills and 16 digs. Sam Schiess and Baylee Bodily led the way for the Wildcats combining for 12 total blocks and giving Weber State one of its best blocking matches of the season. Power was stupendous with her distribution tonight, leading all players with 49 assists.
Weber State is back in action on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 when they head to Missoula and take on long time Big Sky rival Montana. The game can be watched on ESPN+.
