'Cats knock down 12 3-pointers and beat Saint Martin's 82-58

Steven Verplancken scored a career-high 21 points with five 3-pointers.
OGDEN - Steven Verplancken scored a career-high 21 points and Weber State made 12 3-pointers as the Wildcats got back on the winning track with an 82-58 win over Saint Martin's Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
The Wildcats never trailed in the game and jumped out to quick 20-5 lead seven minutes into the game. The 'Cats led 25-9 and made six of their first eight 3-pointers.
Weber State led by as many as 16 in the first half and held a 40-26 halftime lead with nine first half 3-pointers.
The 'Cats led by 16 midway through the second half and went on a 13-2 run to extend the lead to 237 points with 5:52 to play.
"This was a good win for our team," said WSU head coach Eric Duft. "It's been a bit of a grind lately but I thought our guys came out well tonight and had good energy. We got off to a good start and really moved the ball well."
The Wildcats made a season-high 12 3-pointers and finished the game 12 of 24 from 3-point range, a season-best percentage. The 'Cats shot 51 percent overall and outrebounded the Saints 37-29.
Verplancken's 21 points is a career-high. He was 6 of 11 from the field, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, and made his first four 3-point attempts.
Junior Ballard added 15 points with three 3-pointers off the bench and was 5 of 6 from the field. Dillon Jones had his fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds and had a team-high three assists.
Weber State improves to 3-7 on the season. It's back on the road for the Wildcats for the final three non-conference games, beginning next Friday, Dec. 16 at Cal Poly. WSU will also play at Utah State and BYU before starting conference play on Dec. 29.
