Weber State Drops Home Match To USU

Ogden, UT - The Weber State men's tennis team took a tough loss this Saturday afternoon against the Utah State Aggies at the Ogden Athletic Club.

WSU started with a very close match in doubles. Finishing first on court 1, Sebastian Buxman and Bo-Han Li bested David Cierny and Bodin Zarkovic, 6-4.

On court 2 Elyes Marouani and Tristan Sarap fell, 7-6 in a close match. To clinch the doubles point Jordan Coutinho and Matteo Savio were unable to secure the point falling, 7-6 and giving USU the early advantage.

"We took the win at one and then lost two in a tiebreaker," said head coach Brad Ferreira. "We came down to three and a third set tiebreaker that we lost 8-6."

The Aggies headed into singles play 1-0. Elyes Marouani took the upper hand against the Aggies Felipe Acosta, 7-6, 6-1 on court 3. Tristan Sarap earned WSU their second point on court two when he defeated Bodin Zarkovic, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Weber State played great across all courts throughout singles play. Matteo Savio battled on court five but fell, 1-6, 6-4, 5-7. Jordan Coutinho put up a fight on court six but did not earn the win dropping, 5-7, 6-4, 3-6.

"In singles, we lost at four and then lost really close at one. We pulled out two great wins at three and then two close in 3-2. Five and six both played great matches but came up short."

Next Up: The Wildcats hit the road as they head to Denver, Colorado to go up against Metropolitan State University of Denver on Saturday, Feb 12 at 10 a.m.
