The Wildcats came home this week to host a meet here in Ogden, UT. It was a great opportunity for fine tuning things to prepare for the Big Sky Championships scheduled in a couple of weeks. Coach Paul Pilkington noted great improvements, especially in the short sprints, and throwing performances.
Â
Sprint performances were solid from Riley Roberts in the 55m dash where she finished 5th with a season-best 7.33 finish. The 400m dash saw a Wildcat sweep for the top-3 with Jasmine Devers posting a season-best time of 1:00.42. Windsor Moore-Whicker followed her closely at 1:00.43, Cheyenne Leatham came third with 1:00.60, all these times put them in the top-30 in the Big Sky this season. Ashlynn Campos finished seventh at 1:01.81.
Â
Brittany Cardall finished fourth in the 55m hurdles with a personal best time of 8.84.
Â
The 800m saw four top-eight finishers for Weber State with Bailey Winter placing third with a time of 2:20.60. Kami Withers came in at 2:22.87 for fifth-place, Laurie Murphy coming sixth at 2:23.45, and Rebekkah Geddes finished seventh at 2:24.17.
Â
Both the 'A' and 'B' 4x400m relay teams performed well with team 'A' (Ashlynn Campos, Brittany Cardall, Emily Barnes-Sterzer, Jasmine Devers) finishing at 4:03.16 for first place and team 'B' (Melanie Hall, Riley Roberts, Windsor Moore-Whicker, Rebekah Geddes) taking second with a time of 4:11.64.
Â
Moving onto the field events, Eden Deveraux finished fourth in the high jump clearing a height of 5' 0.5"
Â
Emily Barnes-Sterzer earned a personal best in the long jump with her first-place mark of 17' 4.25". Whitley Surrage followed came third at 16' 7".
Â
Wildcat throwers had a solid performance as well with Kapua Pulotu placing first in the shot put with a throw of 44' 5.25", and a personal best in the weight throw with a sixth-place mark of 44' 0".
Â
Lia Katoa had a very good day with personal bests in both the shot put and the weight throw. Her 39' 10.75" throw in the shot put was enough to earn fourth and her weight throw of 52' 6" earned second place for the meet.
Â
Wrapping up the throwers was Marissa Schmidt who finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 51' 7.25". She also placed fourth in the weight throw at the USU Aggie Speed & Power Meet in Logan, UT on Saturday.
Â
The team has been improving each week and this week was important to start getting athletes ready for higher levels of competition over the next couple of weeks in preparation for the Big Sky Championships. The Wildcats look to keep momentum going next week at a pair of meets, the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle, WA (Feb 11-12), and the Montana State Invitational in Bozeman, MT (Feb 11).
