Wildcats Compete Well in Lead-up to the Big Sky Championships

With just two weeks left before the Big Sky Indoor Championship meet, the Wildcat Track and Field athletes were spread out across three meets this weekend to tune-up for competition. Most of the team competed at the Big Sky Preview meet in Bozeman, Montana. A few athletes competed at the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington.

There were several top performances for the Big Sky this season and all-time marks for the school in the track events. Jasmine Devers had a second-place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.69 which is a personal best and has her number nine in the Big Sky and number seven in the school record books. Riley Roberts followed Devers in the 60m dash, taking fourth and posting a personal best time at 7.81, and Melanie Hall finished sixth at 7.94 seconds.
 
Cidnee Davies-Bohn had a fourth-place finish in the 60m hurdles posting a number seven time for the Big Sky at 8.97.
 
In the 200m dash Devers finished first for the meet and posted another personal best and a number eight time for the Big Sky with a time of 25.30 seconds. Brittany Cardall placed fourth at 26.01, and Riley Roberts finished seventh with a time of 26.80.
 
Kate Sorensen posted the fastest time in the Big Sky this season in the 400m dash with her first-place finishing time of 56.01. Windsor Moore-Whicker finished second for the meet at 59.68, and Ashlynn Campos finished fourth at 1:00.98.
 
To round out a solid performance from the sprint events at the meet, the 4x400m relay team consisting of Moore-Whicker, Devers, Emily Barnes-Sterzer, and Sorensen placed first for the meet and posted the second-best time for the Big Sky this season coming in at 3:54.67.
 
Distance events continued the strong performance on the track with Rebekah Geddes finishing first in the 800m run with a time of 2:20.07 which is good for twentieth in the Big Sky this season.
 
The mile run had Bailey Winter finish second with a personal best time of 5:04.82, Laurie Murphy finished fifth with a personal best time of 5:08.32, and Kami Withers came in at 5:11.73 for a personal best time and a seventh place.
 
Rylie Lusk had a strong finish in the 3000m run with her personal best, and second-place finishing time of 9:53.77 which puts her number seven in the Big Sky. Maura Williams finished sixth in the race and posted a personal best with a time of 10:36.76, and Abby Lawrence finished seventh with a 10:40.08 time, rounding up the top performances on the track for this meet.
 
Moving to the field events Emily Barnes-Sterzer had a third-place finish in the high jump with a number nine Big Sky mark of 5' 4.25", and Whitley Surrage placed fifth by clearing a personal best 5' 0.25".
 
Cidnee Davies-Bohn followed her strong performance on the track with a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17' 2.25", and Surrage earned eighth in the long jump with a jump of 16' 6.5".
 
In the shot put Kapua Pulotu took the top spot with her throw of 44' 6", and Lia Katoa threw 37' 11.5" for a sixth-place mark.
 
Marissa Schmidt had a third-place finish in the weight throw with her number thirteen Big Sky mark of 52' 11", and Katoa placed seventh for the event with a throw of 48' 1.25".
 
UW Husky Classic
The Wildcats sent a few distance runners to the Husky Classic this weekend and each performed well at the meet.
 
Cheyenne Leatham posted a number seven mark for the school and a number three time for the Big Sky in the 800m run with her time of 2:11.11 which earned her nineteenth at the meet.
 
Billie Hatch and Summer Allen competed in the 5000m run with Hatch finishing fourteenth at 16:03.84, and Allen taking thirty-second with a time of 16:41.08.
 
These meets were important tune-ups for the Big Sky Championships in a couple of weeks in Bozeman, as the team looks forward to the competition there were several solid marks to start momentum for strong performances to come. The next week will focus on practice and preparation.
