Wildcats Headed to Big Sky Indoor Championships

A big week of competition is ahead for the Wildcats Track & Field team as both the men and women will be competing at the Big Sky Indoor Championships in Bozeman, Montana. Several Wildcats are primed for top finishes is several events and it looks to be a good weekend for both teams.

WOMEN
Â
Starting with sprinters, Jasmine Devers looks to continue improving as she has made her way into the top-ten for both the 60m and 200m dash, Devers also participated on the 4x400m relay team. Devers' time of 7.69 in the 60m dash ranks seventh on the Weber State top-10 list.

Kate Sorensen has posted top-five marks in four events this season with a number one overall time in the 400m dash, a second-place time in the 60m hurdles, and fifth best time in the 200m dash. She also helped anchor the 4x400m relay team which currently sits number two in the conference.

The rest of the number two 4x400m relay team consists of Windsor Moore-Whicker, and Emily Barnes-Sterzer.

Also, in the 60m hurdles is Cidnee Davies-Bohn who currently holds the eighth best time for the conference. Davies-Bohn also has a sixth best mark in the long jump.

Starting off the distance athletes that hold top times for the conference is Cheyenne Leatham who holds the number three time in the 800m, her time of 2:11.11 is number seven on the Weber State top-10 list. Leatham also holds the seventh best time in the conference for the mile with a 4:48.56 which ranks fourth on the Weber State top-10.

Billie Hatch set the Weber State school record in the 3000m run with a time of 9:05.50 which has her third in the Big Sky going into the championship meet. Hatch ranks third in the 5000m run in the conference as well as well as posting the number two all-time school mark of 15:57.85

Another school record was set by Summer Allen in the 5000m this season with her time of 15:56.45 which has her second in the Big Sky this season. She also posted the number seven school mark for the 3000m with a time of 9:41.11 which is good for eighth in the Big Sky.

Rylie Lusk also performed well in the 3000m run and currently holds the 7th best time for the Big Sky.Â

In field events, Kapua Pulotu currently hold the sixth-best mark in the shot put in the Big Sky.

Emily Barnes-Sterzer had the seventh best score for the Pentathlon to round up top-ten rankings for events in the Big Sky this season for the women.

For the men's team we see a lot of similar rankings and performances that are sure to be replicated at the Championships this weekend.

Cyrus Rindlisbacher had a number four time for the 60m hurdles at 8.01 which is the second fastest time in school history. He also sits eighth in the 400m dash for the conference.

In distance events Tracen Warnick set a school record in the mile as the second Wildcat to ever break four minutes with a time of 3:58.52 which ranks fifth in the Big Sky this season. He also posted the second fastest time in school history for the 3000m run with a time of 8:01.47 which ranks seventh in the conference.

Christian Allen set a school record in the 5000m run early in the season with a time of 13:36.50 which ranks sixth in the conference.

In field events there were several strong performers that will compete well at the Championships. Xakai Harry looks to improve on both of his fourth-best conference marks in the high jump and the long jump as he will be competing in both events. Another jumper, Johnie Talamantes holds the tenth best mark for the conference in the long jump.

Wildcat pole vaulters will have four athletes with top-six marks for the conference this year with Lachlan Burns currently sitting in the number two spot with his number four school mark of 16' 8.75". Ryan Shearman has the fourth-best mark this season, with Parker Sagers and Jed Smith both tied in the number six spot.

Three athletes will compete highly in the Heptathlon this weekend with Caleb Whitney posting the highest score of the season for the Big Sky, Jed Smith was just behind Whitney for the second spot, and Jakob Pearson holds the tenth spot this season.

The Big Sky Championship meet is scheduled to take place February 24 – 26, 2022 in Bozeman, Montana, and should any Wildcats qualify, the NCAA Indoor Championships will take place in Birmingham, Alabama on March 11-12, 2022. Good luck to all the athletes competing this weekend.
