Wildcat men’s track and field qualifies eight for NCAA First Round Meet

The NCAA First Round meet will be held May 27-30 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Weber State men's track and field has eight athletes who have qualified for the 2026 NCAA West First Round meet.
The top 48 athletes in each event in the west region qualify for the first round meet, which will be held May 27-30 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The top 12 finishers in each event at the region meet will advance to the NCAA Championships.
The men will compete on Wednesday and Friday at the meet, which will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The eight Wildcats who qualified for the first round meet are tied for the third-most in school history since the east/west rounds began in 2010.
Head coach Corbin Talley's squad has three athletes who qualified for the meet in the steeplechase. The top-ranked Wildcat is senior Peter Visser, who enters the meet ranked 11th in the west region. He posted a career best time of 8:35.74 in the event earlier this year, the fifth-fastest time in WSU history. Visser finished second at the Big Sky Championships in the event. He advanced to the NCAA Championships last year.
Owen Rogers is ranked 19th in the steeplechase heading into the region meet at 8:40.29, which is 10th in WSU history. Rogers earned all-conference honors by finishing third in the event at the Big Sky Championships.
TJ Warnick is 33rd in the west region meet at 8:51.99, which he ran at the Big Sky Championships and finished fifth.
Weber State has had at least one athlete in the steeplechase at 13 of the 15 NCAA West Region meets, and has had more than one in 12 of the 15 meets.
A total of 32 Wildcats have qualified for the region meet in the steeplechase since 2010, the second most of any school in the country.
Two Wildcat runners qualified for the NCAA First Round meet in the 800 meters. Colby Jenks and Joe Corbridge are the first Wildcats to ever qualify for the meet in the 800 meters.
Jenks is ranked 24th in the region heading into the meet. He posted the second-fastest time in school history earlier this year at 1:47.17. Corbridge is ranked 42nd in the 800 at 1:48.20, and ranks fourth in WSU history. Jenks finished sixth, and Corbridge was eighth at the Big Sky Championships.
The Wildcats have three athletes who qualified in field events.
Ethan Ecker, who won the Big Sky title in the javelin with a career best throw, is ranked 14th in the west region heading into the First Round meet. Ecker won the Big Sky title with a throw of 232-01, the third-best in Weber State history.
Freshman Wyatt Larkins is ranked 19th in the hammer throw. Larkins set a Weber State school record in the event earlier this year with a mark of 219-01, nearly 19 feet ahead of second place in school history. Larkins was second in the event at the Big Sky Championships.
Tyler Warnick will be competing in the NCAA First Round meet in the long jump. He is 45th in the region heading into the event and posted a career best mark of 24-09.75 earlier this year, which is now sixth in school history. Warnick was fourth in the long jump at the Big Sky Championships.
Weber State has had 11 athletes advance from the first round meet to the NCAA Championships since the event began in 2010.
The NCAA Championships will be held June 10-13 in Eugene, Oregon.
