Weber State’s Wyatt Larkins wins bronze medal at World Athletics U20 Championships

Larkins earned a medal in the hammer throw at the world championships.
Weber State's Wyatt Larkins performed on a world stage and brought home a medal.
Larkins earned a bronze medal in the hammer throw at the World Athletics Under 20 Championships, held this past weekend in Eugene, Oregon.
A native of Braintree, Essex, in England, Larkins was representing Great Britain at the meet. He entered the meet ranked 12th in the competition in the hammer throw.
In the finals on Sunday, he threw a personal best mark of 247-03 to finish third and claim the bronze medal.
"I was extremely proud of Wyatt's performance this past week," said Josh Aydlette, Weber State's throws coach. "Not only did he improve his previous personal best from earlier this season by over 16 feet, he did it on the world stage in a very high pressured environment. Coming in ranked 12th, we were hoping just to have a respectable finish, maybe sneak into the sixth round. Needless to say, a third place far surpassed our expectations, and it was a very pleasant surprise.
"Overall, this season, he improved by 28 free with the junior hammer, and over 29 feet with the senior Implement, just in one season here at Weber State. I'm extremely excited for the future."
It's been a remarkable year for Larkins, who set two Weber State school records as a freshman this past season. In indoor track and field, he set a school record in the weight throw with a mark of 66-05.25. He finished sixth in the Big Sky Championships in indoor track.
During the outdoor season, he set a WSU school record in the hammer throw at 219-01. He finished second at the Big Sky Championships and qualified for the NCAA West Region First Round meet.
