Weber State senior Peter Visser will close out his historic Wildcat career this week as he competes at another NCAA Championship.
Visser will run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week in Eugene, Oregon.
He is one of 24 athletes from across the country who qualified for the event. The semifinals of the steeplechase will be on Wednesday, June 10, at 5:38 p.m. PT (6:38 p.m. MT).
The top 12 finishers in the semifinals will advance to the finals, which will be on Friday, June 12, at 5:24 p.m. PT (6:24 p.m. MT). The top eight finishers in the finals will earn first-team All-America honors, and the second eight finishers will earn second-team All-America honors.
The meet will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN+.
Visser qualified for the championship by taking second in his heat at the NCAA West First Round meet on May 29 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He posted a time of 8:37.57 to qualify.
He is ranked 22nd in the field coming into the meet with a seasonal best time of 8:35.74, which he ran at the Bryan Clay Invitational in April. That time is currently the fifth-best in Weber State history.
Earlier this season, Visser was second at the Big Sky Championships in two events. He was second in the steeplechase and second in the 5,000 meters.
This will be Visser's second straight year qualifying for the NCAA Championships. He finished 17th overall in the steeplechase last year.
It will also be Visser's fifth NCAA Championship. He has qualified for the NCAA's in cross country in each of the last three years, and he is the first Wildcat ever to qualify individually three times in cross country.
He finished 35th at the cross country championships to earn All-America honors.
Earlier this year, he also won the Big Sky title in the indoor 3,000 meters and was named the Weber State Male Athlete of the Year.
This will be the final meet of Visser's career. The Afton, Wyoming native has been a part of the Weber State program since 2021.
He holds three Weber State school records. He is first in the outdoor 5,000 meters and first in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters in indoor track. He also has three other ties on the WSU top 10 lists.
He has earned Big Sky All-Conference honors 11 times in cross country and track and field. He has six second-place finishes in conference meets. He has also earned multiple academic honors, including being named the Elite Scholar Athlete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships last fall.
