Visser took 20th in the steeplechase at NCAA meet.
Weber State senior Peter Visser finished his historic Wildcat career at the 2026 NCAA Championships.Â
Visser finished 20th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday in Eugene, Oregon. He posted a time of 8:38.93 to finish 20th in the event and earn Honorable Mention honors.Â
This was the second straight year qualifying for the steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. It was also his fifth time as an individual at the NCAA meet, as he competed in three straight NCAA Championships in cross country. He is the first Wildcat ever to qualify for the three times in cross country.Â
Visser qualified for this year's championship by taking second in his heat at the NCAA West First Round meet on May 29 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He posted a time of 8:37.57 to qualify. Â
He had a seasonal best time of 8:35.74, which he ran at the Bryan Clay Invitational in April. That time is currently the fifth-best in Weber State history. Â
Earlier this season, Visser was second at the Big Sky Championships in two events. He was second in the steeplechase and second in the 5,000 meters.Â
It will also be Visser's fifth NCAA Championship. He finished 35th at the cross country championships to earn All-America honors.Â
Earlier this year, he also won the Big Sky title in the indoor 3,000 meters and was named the Weber State Male Athlete of the Year.Â
The Afton, Wyoming, native was part of the Weber State program since 2021.Â
He finishes his career holding three Weber State school records. He is first in the outdoor 5,000 meters and first in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters in indoor track. He also has three other ties on the WSU top 10 lists. Â
He has earned Big Sky All-Conference honors 11 times in cross country and track and field. He has six second-place finishes in conference meets. He has also earned multiple academic honors, including being named the Elite Scholar Athlete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships last fall.Â
