Tyler Warnick named Big Sky Freshman of the Year

Warnick was the leading scorer for the Wildcats with 17 individual points.
It was quite a week for Weber State freshman Tyler Warnick.Â
After leading the Wildcats in scoring at the 2026 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Gresham, Oregon, Warnick was named the Big Sky Men's Freshman of the Year.Â
He scored 17 individual points at the Big Sky Championships to lead the Wildcats in scoring. WSU finished fifth in the team standings. Â
Warnick competed all four days of the conference meet, beginning with the Decathlon on Wednesday and Thursday. He finished second in the event with a career-best point total of 7,161 points, which is the fourth-best in Weber State history.Â
On Friday, Warnick finished fourth in the long jump on with a mark of 23-07.25. He came back on Saturday and finished fifth in the high jump at 6-08.00.Â
He also was part of the Wildcat 4x100-meter relay team that finished eighth.Â
Tyler was so solid for us," said WSU head coach Corbin Talley. "He scored 17 points across five events. We're so excited for his future and proud of his Freshman of the Year."
Warnick, a native of Riverton, Utah, won the Big Sky title in Heptathlon at the conference indoor championships in February. He set a freshman record and is second in school history in the event at 5,410 points.Â
