Weber State will take on Northern Arizona for the Big Sky title Saturday morning in Phoenix.
PHOENIX - Survive and Advance. That's what the Weber State women's tennis team did Friday morning in the semifinals of the Big Sky Championships.Â
The Wildcats rallied from a 2–0 deficit for a dramatic 4-2 win over Sacramento State Friday morning at the Phoenix Tennis Center. The 'Cats will take on No. 2 seed Northern Arizona Saturday morning for the Big Sky Championships.Â
Sacramento State won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead and then won at No. 5 singles to make the score 2-0.Â
But the Wildcats kept going in the singles matches. Yuuna Ukita won her match 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 4 singles to give the Wildcats a point. Then Ana Morett won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles to tie the score 2-2.Â
The other three singles matches all went to three sets. Megan Lombardi won 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 at No. 6 singles to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead.Â
The deciding match was at No. 1 singles at Megan Davies pulled out a dramatic 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 win to seal the 4-2 decision for the Wildcats.Â
Weber State is the number one seed in the tournament and tied for the Big Sky title with Northern Arizona with a 7-1 record. The 'Cats beat NAU 4-3 in February in Ogden.Â
Saturday's match will begin at 9 a.m. Mountain time in Phoenix.Â
