Wildcats Finish 23rd at Cowboy Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Weber State men's golf team shot a three-round total of 883 to finish in 23rd place at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, which finished up on Tuesday at Whirlwind Golf Club. 

The Wildcats opened with rounds of 294 and 297 on Tuesday ahead of a final round 292. 

San Diego State ran away with the tournament team championship, starting with an opening round 272 that gave the Aztecs a 10-shot lead. They followed that up with rounds of 282 and 271 to finish with a total of 39-under par 825 for a 13-shot margin over second place Long Beach State.

Long Beach State was led by individual medalist Isaac Rodea, who shot rounds of 65, 69 and 69 for a 13-under par total of 203.  Zihao Jin and Steve Sugimoto of SDSU and Connor Jones of Colorado State all tied for second place at 204.

Weber State was led by Hayden Banz, who shot rounds of 71, 77 and 72 for a 4-over par total of 220, which placed him in a tie for 75th overall.

Hunter Howe (71-73-77) shot 221 to tie for 83rd, Brody Childs (74-76-72) shot 222 to tie for 89th, Gunnar Knutson (79-72-74) tied for 106th at 225, and Reese Fisher (78-76-74) shot 228 to tie for 116th.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Mar. 11 and 12 at the UCSB Collegiate in Santa Barbara, Calif.
