Wildcats beat Vandals 5-2 in final home match

Weber State now 6-1 in Big Sky play and can clinch at least a share of the Big Sky title with a win Sunday at Idaho State.
OGDEN - The Weber State women's tennis team closed out a perfect home schedule for the 2022 season with a 5-2 win over the University of Idaho Friday. The match was the first home match played outside as the 'Cats enjoyed a beautiful day at the Edman Tennis Courts on the WSU campus.Â
The win moved the Wildcats to 6-1 in Big Sky play with one match remaining. The 'Cats were also a perfect 6-0 at home this season.Â
Weber State will close the regular season with a match Sunday at Idaho State. With a win, the Wildcats will clinch at least a share of the Big Sky Conference title.Â
The Wildcats honored seniors Patty Kuo and Yuuna Ukita prior to the match.Â
WSU won the doubles point with a win by Megan Lombardi and Ukita, as well as a win by default in the No. 3 doubles spot.Â
In singles play, Kuo and Ukita both claimed titles with Kuo winning at the No. 3 singles and Ukita at No. 4. Ana Morrett won her match at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-3 and Megan Lombardi won by default at the No. 6 spot.Â
"It was great to play on campus for our senior day," said WSU head coach RuthAnn Allen. "We really enjoyed being home and the fans support. Patty Kuo and Yuuna Ukita had a strong senior day. We did what we needed to do to clinch the point for the match."
