2022 Big Sky Outdoor Championships Recap

The 2022 Big Sky Conference Championships are complete, and it was a great day week for Weber State Athletes with several Personal Records, All-Big Sky Conference athletes, and Big Sky Conference Champions.

Multi Competition
Â
Caleb Whitney started the week off on a high note for the Men's team by winning the Decathlon with a number four Weber State All-Time score of 7128. Caleb earned PRs in four of the final five events to gut out the championship winning score. In the final event, the 1500-meter run, Caleb left it all out on the track to seal his defense of his Big Sky title.

Jed Smith added to Caleb's finish by earning a third-place finish in the Decathlon with a score of 6704, just a few points shy of his personal best. Jed placed first for the competition in the Pole Vault on the second day to get a big boost in points to solidify his position in third for the event. Caleb and Jed's efforts earned each of them Big Sky All-Conference Honors and earned some solid points for the team.

Individual Event Competition
Â
Day 1
The first full day of individual events saw several strong performances from the Wildcats, including a Big Sky Champion performance from Lachlan Burns in the Pole Vault. Lachlan outlasted the competition and was able to clear 17' 0.75" to take the number one spot.Â

Cody Canard earned All-Conference Honors with a throw of 218' 5" in the Javelin which ties his PR set earlier this season.
Â
In the 3000-meter Steeplechase Tracen Warnick earned All-Conference honors for his third-place finish with a time of 9:03.47.Â
Tracen was followed closely by three Wildcat teammates, Bronson Winter, Peter Visser, and Jamison Wilkes who added some solid points for the team.

A pair of Wildcats finished in the top-8 for the 10,000-meter run, Dallin Leatham finished fifth at 30:16.12, and Logan Anderson finished seventh at 30:43.74.Â

Day 2
Â
The events of day two kicked off with the Men's 4x100m relays where the Weber State team consisting of Johnie Talamantes, Muamer Mujic, Alex Wheeler, and Cyrus Rindlisbacher earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 41.20.

Tracen Warnick finished sixth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:48.44.
Â
Cyrus Rindlisbacher ran a PR time of 52.50 in the 400m Hurdles to finish fifth.
Â
Christian Allen finished sixth in the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:17.16.
Â
The 4x400m Relay team, consisting of Jed Smith, Alex Wheeler, Bronson Winter, and Cyrus Rindlisbacher finished sixth with a time of 3:17.36.

Though they didn't earn any points, these athletes earned PRs in their respective events…

Gaige Vielhauer in the Shot Put, throwing 51' 10".

It was a great performance all around by all the athletes who competed at the Big Sky Conference Championships. The combined efforts earned a fifth-place finish in the team standings with 76 points. There are some athletes that have qualified for the West Preliminary rounds in Fayetteville, Arkansas in two weeks with events beginning on May 26, and concluding on May 28.
