Wildcats Finish Second in Season Opening Hobble Creek Classic

SPRINGVILLE, Utah – The Weber State women's golf team opened the 2022 fall season in fine fashion, finishing as runner-up in the Hobble Creek Classic which wrapped up on Tuesday at Hobble Creek Golf Course.
The Wildcats opened the tournament on Monday with rounds of 303 and 301 before closing with a 297 on Tuesday for a final score of 49-over par 901.
Jessica Zelasko led the team with a 5-over par total of 218 to finish in third place overall, just two shots off the lead. Zelasko posted four birdies in a 1-over par 72 in the first round, and followed up with another two birdies in an even-par 72 in her afternoon round. In Tuesday's final round, Zelasko carded three birdies en route to a 4-over par 75.
Isabel Gutierrez led Weber State in birdies, totaling 14 for the event as she tied for 6th place with an 8-over par total of 221. She opened with four birdies in a 6-over par 77 in the opening round and added five in both the second and third rounds, in which she posted back-to-back 1-over par 72's to jump into the top-10.
Aerin Song gave the Wildcats a trio in the top 30, tying for 30th place with rounds of 74, 79 and 77 for a 17-over par total of 230. Freshmen Sofia Fuenmayor and Emily Song rounded out the Wildcat scoring team, recording a tie for 43rd place and a tie for 70th place, respectively. Fuenmayor finished with a 20-over par total of 233, while Emily Song finished at 26-over par 239.
Freshman Rachel Lillywhite posted a tie for 34th while competing as an individual with an 18-over par total of 231. Gabby DeNunzio also played as an individual for the Wildcats and finished in a tie for 73rd with a 27-over par total of 240.
Boise State took the team title, posting a 31-over par total of 883 to finish 18 shots clear of the Wildcats. UC Davis finished three shots back of Weber State in third place at 904.
UC Riverside's duo of Tiffany Le and Kate Villegas finished 1-2 atop the individual leaderboard to lead the Highlanders to a seventh place finish. Le took home the individual medalist honors with a 3-over par total of 216, while Villegas was one shot back at 217.
It is the second-straight year that the Wildcats finished the Hobble Creek Classic with a second place finish. In 2021, the 'Cats finished second with a total of 883.
