Wildcats Off To Slow Start at Big Sky Championships

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Weber State women's golf team shot a 17-over par 301 in the opening round of the Big Sky Conference Championships on Monday and sit in seventh place after the first day of play.
The Wildcats did gain some momentum during the day, shooting 3-over par on the back nine, compared to a score of 14-over on the opening nine holes.
Jade Gruher led the way for Weber State on the day, carding a pair of birdies against two bogeys for an even-par 71, and is in a tie for sixth place overall.
Emma Lillywhite, who opened the day with back-to-back bogeys and was 3-over par through 11 holes, led the team's back nine resurgence with a pair of birdies down the stretch. Her 1-over par 72 places her in a tie for 10th overall.
Isabel Gutierrez shot a 7-over par 78 and is tied for 36th overall, while Sofia Fuenmayor and Cala Korman each shot 80 and are in a tie for 43rd.
Pre-tournament favorite Sacramento State was the lone team to post in red figures on Monday, shooting a 2-under par 282 and hold a five-shot lead over second-place Montana State. Montana is in third, 13 shots back of the lead.
The Hornets were led by Darla May Dela Torre, who shot a 3-under par 68 to take the 18-hole lead in the individual medalist race. Scarlet Weidig of Montana State and Gabriella Ilardi each shot 69 and are tied for second place.
The tournmament will resume with the second round on Tuesday morning and will conclude on Wednesday with the final round.
