Weber State moves to 4-0 with win at UC Davis in Big Sky opener

DAVIS, Calif. - Weber State stopped a UC Davis drive in the final minute of the game to and held on for a 17-12 win in the Big Sky opener late Saturday night.
The win moved 12th ranked Weber State to a perfect 4-0 to start the season for the first time since 1998.
UC Davis totaled 417 yards of offense, compared to 356 for Weber State and the Wildcats committed three turnovers but the Wildcat defense made stops to seal the win.
UC Davis started the game with a 35-yard field goal just 1:33 into the game to take a 3-0 lead.
The Wildcats responded with a 9-play, 68-yard drive that ended with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Bronson Barron to Josh Davis to give the Wildcats a 7-3 lead late in the first quarter.
Dontae McMillan added a six-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to make it 14-3.
WSU led 14-6 late in the first half when the Aggies drove all the way to the one-yard line before Maxwell Anderson blocked a UC Davis field goal attempt at the end of the first half.
Kyle Thompson made a 23-yard field goal to give the 'Cats a 17-6 lead with 9:21 left in the third quarter.
The Aggies added a touchdown with 5:33 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 17-12.
Neither team scored in the fourth quarter. UC Davis got the ball at the WSU 25-yard line with 2:22 to play after a Wildcat fumble. But the Weber State defense stopped the Aggies on a fourth and 13 with 48 seconds to play to seal the victory.
Weber State threw for 201 yards and rushed for 155 yards.
Individually, Desmond Williams totaled nine tackles to lead the Wildcats, while Eddie Heckard, Winston Reid and Naseme Colvin all had eight tackles.
Weber State also had six pass breakups.
UC Davis missed three field goals on the night.
Barron finished the day 20 of 30 passing for 201 yards and one touchdown. Davis finished with exactly 100 yards rushing on 20 carries and McMillan added 52 yards and a touchdown.
Ty MacPherson had five catches for 70 yards, Jacob Sharp had six catches for 64 yards and Haze Hadley had six receptions for 40 yards.
The Wildcats are 4-0 to start a full season for just the third time in the last 50 years. WSU has now won 21 of its last 23 Big Sky Conference road games.
Weber State has a bye this week and will return to action back home on Saturday, October 8 against Eastern Washington. Kickoff at 6 p.m. at Stewart Stadium and will be the annual Homecoming game at Weber State.
