Riverside, CA – The Weber State women's soccer team found a dominating victory against UC Riverside this Sunday morning at the UCR Soccer Stadium. The 'Cats downed the Highlanders 2-1.
The Wildcats came out strong in the first half, putting pressure on the Highlanders and giving themselves opportunities to score. In the 23rd minute, Samantha Kerns scored WSU's first goal of the day and second goal of the season as she put one past UC Riverside goalkeeper Caela Kaio. Weber State continued to control much of the possession the rest of the half and Gentrey Gibson found the back of the net in the 40th minute, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead ending the half. The Wildcats took seven shots in the first half, with four of them on goal.
UC Riverside came out fighting in the second half and scored in the first minute of play giving the 'Cats just a one-point lead. The Wildcats weren't able to convert a goal in the second half but played good defense and ended the game in a 2-1 victory.
