Wildcats roll to 90-51 exhibition win

All 15 players scored in Weber State's exhibition win over Adams State. Wildcats open the season Tuesday night.
OGDEN - Weber State men's basketball finally hit the floor against another opponent and the Wildcats domainted its only exhibition game of the season with a 90-51 win over Adams State Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.Â
All 15 Wildcats that played in the game scored at least two points. WSU shot 53 percent from the field and held the Grizzlies to 25 percent shooting. Weber State also knocked down nine 3-pointers and outrebounded Adams State 46-26.Â
Weber State went on a 34-8 run over the next 15 minutes of the first half and held a 41-15 lead. The 'Cats led 43-19 at halftime.Â
The lead was never less than 24 points in the second half and the Wildcats led by as many as 43 points late in the game.Â
Steven Verplancken had 13 points and knocked down three 3-pointers in 21 minutes of action. New transfer Blaise Threatt also added 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting and also dished out four assists. Dyson Koehler had 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting.Â
Dillon Jones, the Big Sky preseason MVP, had 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals in 25 minutes of action.Â
Freshman Vijami Vartiainen added seven points with four rebounds and three assists.Â
The Wildcats were picked to finish first in the Big Sky preseason media and coaches polls.Â
Head coach Eric Duft returns for his second season as head coach and the 'Cats return all five starting players from last year.Â
Weber State will officially open the 2023-24 season on Tuesday night with a home game against Benedictine Mesa. The game will tipoff at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center and will be streamed live on ESPN+. Â
