Weber State wins home opener with 57-55 win over Nevada

OGDEN - Weber State played its first home game of the season and picked up its first win of the season with a 57-55 win over Nevada Wednesday night at the Dee Events Center.
Weber State led by as many as 10 points, held a 46-40 lead after three quarters, and held on for the win over the Wolfpack.
"I'm super proud of our team tonight," said WSU head coach Jenteal Jackson who picked up her first win as the Wildcat coach. "I feel like we came out punching against a good team and I thought we got in a good flow and handled their pressure."
Weber State closed the first quarter on a 9-2 run and led 16-12 after shooting 54 percent from the field.
The 'Cats led 26-23 at halftime as Nevada closed the half on a 7-2 run.
The Wolfpack took the lead early in the third quarter before another Wildcat run. The 'Cats took their largest lead of the game at 10 points with 2:06 to play in the third.
Daryn Hickok's 3-pointer with 1:49 to play gave the 'Cats a 55-48 lead. Hickok then hit another jump shot with 57 seconds to play to make it 57-51 and the Wildcat hung on for the win.
Both teams shot 36 percent from the field but the Wildcats knocked down six 3-pointers, while Nevada just made two 3-pointers. WSU also outrebounded the Wolfpack 44-37.
Hickok led the Wildcats and tied her season-high with 17 points. She also had seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
Jadyn Matthews added nine points and five rebounds and Amelia Raidaveta had eight points with six rebounds.
The Wildcats are back on the road for an in-state battle at Utah Tech this Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. George.
After that, WSU will be back at the Dee Events Center on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. to host Westminster.
