ST. SIMON'S ISLAND, Ga. – The Weber State men's golf team wrapped up its second 54-hole event of the week on Saturday, finishing 15th in the 20-team Sea Palms Invitational field at Sea Palms Resort.
The Wildcats, who won the Colin Montgomerie Invitational in Texas on Monday and Tuesday had a quick turnaround for Thursday's first round of the Sea Palms Invite. Over the three days of 18 holes, WSU shot rounds of 294, 287 and 291 for a total score of 872.
Davidson won the event, shooting a blistering 43-under par total of 809 to finish 13 shots ahead of second place Wright State. Augusta finished another 15 shots back in third place.
Mikkel Mathiesen of Wright State and Erik Jansson of Jacksonville State each shot 13-under par totals of 200 to tie for medalist honors.
The Wildcats were led by Isaac Buerger, who shot rounds of 68 and 74 ahead of a bogey-free 4-under par 67 in Saturday's final round to finish in a tie for 16th place overall at 4-under 209.
Brendan Thomas opened the tournament on Thursday with a 76, but rebounded with back-to-back rounds of 1-under 70 to move into a tie for 43rd.
Hayden Banz opened the event with a 2-over par 73, which was highlighted by an eagle-two on the finishing hole, as he holed his second shot into the 403-yard par 4. Banz followed up with rounds of 71 and 78 to finish in a tie for 71st with a total of 222.
Cameron Gray shot 225 to tie for 88th place, while Gunnar Knutson rounded out the team with a score of 238 to finish 116th.
