Four Wildcats Earn GCAA Scholar All-America Honors

Hayden Banz, Isaac Buerger, Cameron Gray and Brendan Thomas have all been named Scholar All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America released its annual list of Scholar All-Americans on Wednesday and four members of the Weber State men's golf team were among the Division I honorees as Hayden Banz, Isaac Buerger, Cameron Gray and Brendan Thomas each made the list.
Banz, an Economics major from Salt Lake City, was a junior in 2022-23 and earned All-Big Sky Honorable Mention honors. He played in all 10 tournaments for the Wildcats and posted a stroke average of 73.62. He finished in the top-20 at three events, including a season-best tie for 11th place at the Big Sky Conference Championships.
Buerger, a senior from Redmond, Ore. majoring in Professional Sales, was the team's top player last season, earning All-Big Sky First Team honors. He posted a team-best 72.21 stroke average while earning six top-20 finishes, including three top-10's and a pair of top-five's. He posted 14 rounds of even-par or better, 11 of which were in the 60's.
Gray, a junior from Dumfries, Scotland majoring in Business Administration, joined the Wildcats as a junior last season and posted a 74.93 stroke average over 10 tournaments. He recorded a pair of top-20 finishes, including a season-best 5th place finish at the Herb Wimberly Invitational.
Thomas, a junior from Farmington, Utah majoring in Business Administration, played in all 10 tournaments in his first year with the Wildcats last season and was named to the All-Big Sky Second Team honors. He posted a 73.24 stroke average and had three top-20 finishes, including a tie for fourth place at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational after shooting a 9-under par total of 207 for his top finish of the year.
All four players also earned Big Sky Conference All-Academic honors this past season.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
