Wildcats fall to Bobcats in Big Sky opener

Weber State back on the road at Northern Colorado next week.
OGDEN - No. 3 Montana State totaled 518 yards and shut out Weber State 40-0 in the Big Sky opener Saturday night at Stewart Stadium.
The Bobcats totaled 346 yards on the ground and 172 yards passing and held the Wildcats to just 208 total yards. Weber State was just 3 of 17 on third-down conversions and Montana State had four quarterback sacks.
After a scoreless first quarter, MSU scored 20 points in the second quarter, all coming in a nine-minute stretch. The Bobcats scored back-to-back touchdowns to jump out to a 13-0 lead, then forced a Wildcat fumble that led to another touchdown with 5:30 to play to make it 20-0.
Neither team scored in the third quarter but the Bobcats broke the game open with three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Kylan Weisser was 14 of 29 passing for 101 yards. Damon Bankston rushed for 36 yards with Kris Jackson posting 31 yards.
Defensively, Brayden Wilson recorded two quarterback sacks and three tackles for loss for the Wildcats. Naseme Colvin had 10 tackles and Winston Reid had eight. Jack Kelly had 1.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble.
The game was the first home game with the fully completed Stewart Stadium. The new east stands were completely rebuilt to enhance the fan gameday experience. A new track and new field were also installed. A crowd of 10,905 fans attended the game.
Weber State is back on the road next week at Northern Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff at 1 p.m. in Greeley in what will be Weber State's first visit to Northern Colorado since 2015.
