Peter Visser qualifies for NCAA Championships

The 'Cats recorded a 12th place finish at the NCAA Mountain Regionals in Reno, NV on November 15. The Wildcats totaled 327 points.

"It was a strong effort from the guys, I'm proud of the way we battled, even though we didn't quite get the result we hoped for," head coach Corbin Talley said.

Peter Visser led the team with a 15th place finish at 29:39.8.

"Peter got out in excellent position and stayed calm in the chaos of the first mile. I was so impressed with his composure and focus," Talley said. "His race was one of the strongest cross country 10K's in team history."

Wesley Kallgren finished next in 59th at 30:36.3, Ty Davis recorded a time of 31:27.1 in 80th, Tanner Rogers finished 31:36.8 at 86th and Hanokh Gailson finished 87th at 31:42.8.

"I was also really pleased with Wes," Talley said. "He's been consistent for us all season long and today was no different. Wes is a great teammate and always digs deep when the race gets hard."

Taylor Knight finished 91st at 31:54.6 and Evan Harris finished in 97th at 32:15.8.

"There was an early jumble, 200 meters into the race, that our group got messed up in," Talley said. "Ty Davis went down hard and got stepped on by another group of runners. The fall spit him out the back of the pack to dead last to start the race. Evan Harris and Hanokh Gailson also went down, but were able to pop back up fairly quickly."

Following Vissers performance, he has qualified for the NCAA Championships for a second year in a row and the fourth Wildcat in team history to qualify two times for the NCAA Championships. Visser will race in Madison Wisconsin on November 23.

"Under the circumstances, I was really pleased with how hard the guys fought through the rest of the race. This group has shown grit and determination throughout the season," Talley said. "At the end of the day, we learned a lot this season and we've grown up a lot as a team. We didn't have any seniors on the line today, and I feel our potential for next year—over track and cross country again—is great."
