Wildcats fall 64-62 to Utah Valley

OGDEN - Weber State rallied in the final few minutes but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats fell 64-62 to Utah Valley in an in-state matchup Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.Â
UVU led by eight with 3:16 to play when the Wildcats went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to two with 1:28 to play, but neither team scored the rest of the way.Â
Utah Valley shot 47 percent from the field and knocked down six 3-pointers, while Weber State shot 45 percent with five 3-pointers. The Wolverines outrebounded the Wildcats 35-31 and had 13 offensive rebounds, with 10 coming in the second half.Â
The Wildcats led by as many as five in the first half but the Wolverines rallied back and held a 38-35 lead at halftime.Â
Weber State tied the game at 49-49 five minutes into the second half but never held the lead. The 'Cats had a 9:04 stretch without a field goal and UVU led by as many as nine in the second half.Â
Three Wildcats scored in double figures led by junior Nigel Burris who had his second career double-double as he finished with season-highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds. He was 6 of 9 from the field and made three 3-pointers.Â
Blaise Threatt added 16 points and had a career-high six steals. The six steals are the most by a Wildcat in a game since 2011.Â
Vasilije Vucinic added 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting.Â
The 'Cats drop to 6-7 overall and will play their next four games on the road. The final non-conference game will be on Sunday, December 29 at 10th-ranked Oregon.Â
After that, WSU starts 2025 with the first three Big Sky games on the road, beginning at Northern Colorado on January 2.Â
