'Cats fall at ninth-ranked Oregon

Weber State begins Big Sky play this week.
EUGENE, Ore. - Weber State faced one of the top teams in the country for its final non-conference game of the season in ninth-ranked Oregon on Sunday afternoon at the Matthew Knight Arena. The ninth-ranked Ducks dominated the Wildcats 89-49 to improve to 12-1 on the season.Â
Oregon shot 55 percent from the field and led the Wildcats to 33 percent shooting. Weber State was just 3 of 22 from 3-point range and the Ducks won the rebounding margin 40-28. WSU committed 18 turnovers which Oregon turned into 27 points. WSU had 10 assists on 17 made field goals.Â
The ninth-ranked Ducks are the highest-ranked team Weber State has played since playing Xavier in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. It is WSU's highest-ranked opponent in the regular season since taking on ninth-ranked Utah in 1996.Â
The Ducks jumped out to a 14-4 lead less than six minutes into the game. The 'Cats cut the lead to five at 14-9 but Oregon went on a 26-9 run over the next 12 minutes and led by as many as 22 points in the first half, before holding a 40-23 lead at the break.Â
Oregon scored the first nine points of the second half. With 14:07 to play and Weber State trailing 59-30, the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 20 points with 11:38 remaining. Oregon led by 24 points with seven minutes left when the Ducks went on a 20-3 run.Â
Blaise Threatt was the only Wildcat in double figures, scoring 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting. Threatt has now scored in double figures in all 14 games this season. He also had two rebounds and a steal.Â
Miguel Tomley added eight points and Nigel Burris and Trevor Hennig each had six points.Â
The Wildcats finish the non-conference season at 6-8.Â
Weber State will begin 2025 and Big Sky Conference play with the first three conference games on the road, beginning Thursday, January 2 at Northern Colorado.Â
