Trevor Hennig led the Wildcats with a career-high 17 points.
GREELEY, Colo. - Weber State dropped the 2025 Big Sky opener 89-72 to Northern Colorado Thursday night at the Bank of Colorado Arena.Â
The Wildcats outscored the Bears in the second half but couldn't overcome a big first-half deficit.Â
Northern Colorado never trailed in the game and led by as many as 19 points in the first half. UNC led 48-29 at halftime as the Bears shot 65 percent from the field.Â
Northern Colorado extended its lead to 22 points early in the second half. The Wildcats had a 9-0 run early in the half and cut the lead to 11 points at 60-49 with 13:37 to play but could never get closer.Â
UNC later had a 10-2 run and took its largest lead of the game of 24 points with 5:38 to play. Â
The Bears finished the game shooting 59 percent from the field, compared to 46 percent for the Wildcats. UNC made 12 3-pointers and outrebounded the 'Cats 30-25.Â
Five Wildcats scored in double figures led by true freshman Trevor Hennig who finished with a career-high 17 points on 5 of 7 shooting, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range. He also had four steals and two rebounds in 20 minutes of action.Â
Senior Dyson Koehler added 16 points with four 3-pointers and had five rebounds. Blaise Threatt scored in double figures for the 15th time as he added 13 points and had three assists and three rebounds.Â
Nigel Burris had 11 points and Vasilije Vucinic added 10 points with five rebounds.Â
The Wildcats continue their four-game road trip with a Saturday afternoon game at Northern Arizona. Tipoff at 2 p.m. in Flagstaff.Â
