'Cats continue Big Sky road trip at NAU Saturday

WSU and NAU tipoff at 2 p.m. Saturday in Flagstaff.

• Weber State continues its road trip to start Big Sky Conference play with a Saturday afternoon showdown against Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. 

• The Wildcats and Lumberjacks will tipoff at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon from the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.  

The Weber State radio broadcast with Carl Arky will be on 103.1 FM "The Wave".

• Weber State opened 2025 and Big Sky Conference play Thursday night with an 89-72 loss at Northern Colorado. The Bears shot 59 percent from the field and made 12 3-pointers with 23 assists on the night. Five Wildcats scored in double figures in the conference opener. 

• Northern Arizona is 9-5 overall and also opened the conference season with a loss on Thursday as the Lumberjacks fell 72-67 at home to Idaho State. . 

• Weber State is in the midst of a four-game road trip with Sunday's game at Oregon and starting Big Sky play with the first three games on the road. WSU is the only team in the conference to begin Big Sky play with three-straight road games. The 'Cats are 1-6 on the road so far this season. 

• Wildcat freshman Trevor Hennig had quite the debut in his first Big Sky Conference game. Hennig led the Wildcats in scoring for the first time this season as he finished with a career-high 17 points and had four 3-pointers and four steals in just 20 minutes of play in the opener. Hennig is averaging 5.3 points per game and has played in all 15 games for the Wildcats this season. 

• Senior Dyson Koehler had one of his best games of the season on Thursday as he finished with 16 points and knocked down four 3-pointers. It was his fifth time scoring in double figures this season. Koehler is third on the Wildcat team in scoring at 9.9 points per game. He has played in 126 career games.   

Blaise Threatt scored in double figures for the 15th time in 15 games as he posted 13 points. Threatt leads the Big Sky in steals and ranks third in scoring at 17.0 points per game. He is also fourth in minutes played, fifth in assists, sixth in assist to turnover ratio, and seventh in field goal percentage. 

• Weber State allowed Northern Colorado to shoot 58.8 percent from the field in Thursday's game, which is the best field goal percentage against the Wildcats this season. WSU fell to 0-7 this season when the opponent leads in field goal percentage. Weber State is 6-2 when leading its opponents in field goal percentage. 

The 'Cats are also 5-1 when leading in rebounding and 1-8 when trailing. WSU is also 2-8 when trailing at halftime.  

• Northern Arizona enters Saturday's game at 9-5 overall but is coming off a 72-67 loss to Idaho State at home on Thursday night. The Lumberjacks led by as many as 19 points in the second half and led by 18 points with 11:14 to play before the Bengals rallied for the win. It was NAU's first home loss this season. 

NAU leads the Big Sky in scoring margin at +10.4 and is 14th in the nation in assist to turnover ratio. The 'Jacks are also second in the league and 23rd in the country in rebounding margin at +8.3 and are 29th in the country in rebounds at 40.6 a game.

• The Lumberjacks are led by Trent McLaughlin, the Big Sky Preseason Player of the Year, who leads the conference and ranks fourth in the nation in scoring at 22.5 points per game. He has scored 20 or more points in 12 of 14 games this season, but had a season-low 12 points against Idaho State on Thursday. McLaughlin is also eighth in the country in 3-pointers made per game at 3.4 and is 10th in the most field goals made of any player in the country.  

• Thursday's game will feature two of the top three scorers in the Big Sky with Weber State's Blaise Threatt ranking third and McLaughlin ranking first in the league.

• Carson Towt is first in the entire nation in rebounding, averaging 12.1 rebounds per game. Towt has the second-most double-doubles of any player in the nation with 10 this season. He has had at least 10 rebounds in 11 games this season and is second on the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game.   

• Northern Arizona was 14-19 overall last season and was seventh in the Big Sky at 7-11. The Lumberjacks were picked to finish fifth this season in the preseason polls. NAU is coached by Shane Burcar who is in his sixth season as head coach. 

• This will be the 120th all-time meeting between the two schools with Weber State holding a 90-29 series lead. The Wildcats have won the last nine games against the Lumberjacks and have won 16 of the last 17 games played in the series. 

In games in Flagstaff, Weber State holds a 35-20 series lead and the Wildcats have won three straight and 13 of the last 14 games.   

• The Wildcats are coached by Eric Duft who returns for his third season as head coach and his 19th season overall at Weber State. He spent 16 seasons as an assistant coach under Randy Rahe before becoming the 10th head coach in WSU history in May 2022. Weber State won 20 games last season that included Big Sky MVP Dillon Jones who led the conference in points, rebounds, and assists. Jones was the 26th pick in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder.  Jones joins Damian Lillard as the only two Wildcats ever drafted in the first round of the NBA Draft. 

• All five of Weber State's seniors will have played in at least 100 career games. Blaise Threatt (128 games), Dyson Koehler (126), Alex Tew (108), Miguel Tomley (107), and Vasilije Vucinic (103) have all played in at least 100 games in their college careers. 

• Weber State has nine players coming from six different countries on this year's roster.  The 'Cats have three players from Canada, two from Serbia, and one each from England, Finland, Montenegro, and Japan. 

• The Wildcats will have just one game next week, their final game of the four-game road trip, as they play at longtime rival Idaho State on Saturday, January 11.
